Margaret Turner Petyarre was born in c1945, in the Utopia region, north east of Alice Springs, Northern Territory. Sadly Margaret passed away on the 28th of July 2008.
She first became involved in modern art depiction like many other women from Utopia, in the late 1970’s. A community project was created whereby the women of were introduced to silk batik making. Margaret, like her sisters, renowned artists, Gloria, Violet, Myrtle, Kathleen and Jeannie??, eventually moved to acrylic paints and canvas in the 1990’s
Margaret’s works depict Awelye, Women’s Ceremonial Body Paint, and Bush Medicine.
Her work can be found in galleries, corporate and private collections around the world.
