Kudditji Kngwarreye (deceased) was born in c1938 in Utopia, north east of Alice Springs, Northern Territory.
He started painting around 1986 with his earlier work a little more detailed but over the years developed his current bold, abstract style. Kudditji is the half brother of the late Emily Kame Kngwarreye and like Emily’s work, his paintings are in hot demand both in Australia and Internationally.
He had a traditional bush upbringing and worked as a stockman and mine worker for many years. He is also a traditional custodian of many important Dreaming stories, of the land and men's ceremonial sites located in his country at Utopia
During his younger days Kudditji frequently took the young boys/men hunting emu in these lands, merging tradition with practice as part of their initiation as men. It is the land of this experience that he now paints his Emu Dreaming and his My Country works.
Very sadly, Kudditji passed away in 2017. He will be missed.
