Morris Gibbson Tjapaltarri

Morris Gibson Tjapaltjarri was born in c1957 in Papunya region, north west of Alice Springs, Northern Territory.

He is the son of Yala Yala Gibbs Tjungurrayi and Ningura Napurrula. His uncle, is world-renowned artist Willy Tjungurrayi.

Morris learned and inherited custodianship of Dreaming stories from his father, primarily the Tingari Dreaming Cycle. Morris began painting in 1998, immediately after his father’s death, due to the vivid dreams he had about his new custodial responsibilities. These dreams inspired Morris to apply what he had learned while watching his father paint over the years.

Morris paints in a powerful style reminiscent of the early masters who were the first wave of Pintupi artists to come out of Papunya in 1971, including his father Yala Yala.

Growing up in Papunya eventually Morris and his wife Helen moved to Kintore, where they reside to this day.
